Frequently asked questions about disability tax credit review

The DTC covers conditions affecting vision, speaking, hearing, walking, elimination, feeding, dressing, and mental functions. The key test is whether the impairment is prolonged (lasting 12 or more months) and markedly restricts a basic activity of daily living. Many Alberta residents with chronic conditions qualify and do not know it.
The federal DTC is worth approximately $1,500–$2,000 per year in tax savings. Combined with Alberta provincial credits and potential retroactive claims up to 10 years, eligible individuals can receive $10,000–$20,000 or more in total refunds from the CRA.
